Tourism in South Africa. A rewarding holiday destination and perfect business venue. Pilanesberg Wildlife Trust promotes community involvement and encourages investment in the Pilanesberg Game Reserve in the North West Province of South Africa.

The Pilanesberg Wildlife Trust (PWT) was established in 1999 to provide a medium through which contributions can be made to further conservation and social upliftment. The PWT is a non-profit organisation and is registered with the South African Institute of Fundraising. Given the challenges surrounding the government funding for conservation areas, the North West Parks & Tourism Board established the Pilanesberg Wildlife Trust to fund raise and support conservation projects in and around the park. One of the focus areas is to develop projects that have the potential to generate funds for the Trust, a registered Public Benefits Organisation (PBO), in order to make it more sustainable. Representatives of the trust comprise of members from Park Management, North West Parks and Tourism Board, Community leaders, South African businesses and committed members of the public. The creation of the Pilanesberg National Park is considered one of the most ambitious programmes of its kind to be undertaken anywhere in the world. Operation Genesis in 1979 involved the game-fencing of the Park and the re-introduction of many long-vanished species, the Park now has in excess of 7,000 animals including 24 of the larger species. An abundance of wild life proliferate in some 580km² of diverse and arresting bushveld terrain. A wide variety of rare and common species exist like the nocturnal brown hyaena, the fleet-footed cheetah, the majestic sable, as well as giraffe, zebra, hippo and crocodile, to mention but a few. Bird watching is excellent with over 300 species recorded. Some are migrants, others permanent inhabitants; some eat carrion or live prey, others eat seeds, fruit or tiny water organisms. Pilanesberg is one of the largest volcanic complexes of its kind in the world. Its rare rock types and structure make it a unique geological feature and therefore it is rated very high amongst the world’s outstanding geological phenomena. Over the past 34 years the Pilanesberg National Park has become internationally renowned for its progressive conservation efforts as well as for its natural beauty, diverse landscape and eco-system making it a special destination for visitors. It has been a heartbreaking time in Pilanesberg the last few weeks due to the number of Rhino poaching incidents. Stimirol, born in Pilanesberg approximately 20 years ago, has succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The 19 Tech staff are super excited and very proud! Courtesy of Saving the Pilanesberg Rhinos: It's almost that time again! 22 September is World Rhino Day and it's the perfect opportunity for you to help in the fight against poaching.
